For Darlington, Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet will be inspired by David Pearson’s No. 2 car paint scheme from 1979, which he drove for four races while filling in for rookie driver Dale Earnhardt Sr. This paint scheme carried Lowe’s on the hood as its primary sponsor for the Talladega 500, where Pearson finished second, and went on to win the Southern 500 at Darlington, albeit without Lowe’s on the hood for that race. The 2016 version of the paint scheme celebrates Lowe’s long history in NASCAR®, while also honoring a Hall of Famer and one of NASCAR®’s alltime greats, David Pearson.
